Issued : Monday 8 February, 2010

Senator Dominic Hannigan Statement by Senator Dominic Hannigan
Spokesperson on Commuter Issues; Environment and Local Government; Foreign Affairs; Defence

Meath East Senator Dominic Hannigan is to be proposed as the Labour Party's General Election candidate for Meath East by Labour Councillors in the Meath East area.

His name will now go forward to the party's Meath East Selection Convention, which is believed to be imminent.

Hannigan thanked the Councillors for their support, adding: "I am honoured that they have shown the trust and faith in me to propose me for nomination. I intend to accept their proposal and I will be working flat out to secure the nomination and win the seat, in the process getting rid of this government."

Senator Hannigan ran for the party in the 2005 Meath by-election and in the 2007 general election.
