New Working Group on Agriculture and Rural Policy - The Labour Party

We hope to hold an online meeting for those interested to discuss the key issues and develop new campaigns. Our Party traces our roots back to rural Ireland and still has a strong presence in so many areas but we want to do more, and offer voters a clear progressive alternative.

As the agricultural sector faces growing challenges, it’s vital that we shape policies that are sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking—particularly for the next generation of farmers and those living in rural Ireland. Whether you’re currently working in agriculture or a rural community, studying it, or simply passionate about the future of farming and our countryside, we’d love to have your voice at the table.

This group will work collaboratively to:

  • Develop policy positions on key agricultural issues and the challenges facing rural Ireland.
  • Identify challenges and opportunities for young farmers and agricultural workers.
  • Shape a campaign that highlights and supports their needs.
  • Develop proposals to promote at the National Ploughing Championships this September.

If you’re interested in joining, please sign up here and we will in the coming weeks organise an online meeting to outline our next steps.

You can also reach out to myself as our spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and the Marine at [email protected] or Nessa Cosgrove, our spokesperson on Rural and Community Development at [email protected] on any relevant issue.

Let’s build something impactful together.

We look forward to hearing from you.

In solidarity,

Rob O’Donoghue

Labour Party spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and the Marine
