Why I got involved in politics
Was chairperson of lobby group to find work after company I worked in closed back in 2006.
My priorities
As I live and work in rural area where a better transport system is needed, I am passionate about rural development, sustainable planning, local amenities, proper educational facilities and a real care for the environment.
My background
I am an active member of my community. I have been involved in setting up the local library in Ballivor, and I am campaigning for the library to be rehoused in the local derelict Church of Ireland building.
There are a number of derelict buildings in the area and I am pushing for those to be used for housing. I am also involved with the Scouts and the Ballivor Horse Show.
I am the first female Chair of Louth Meath Education & Training Board, and I was involved together with the community in driving the building of the new secondary school.
Workers’ rights and representing people at a time when the nature of work is changing is my priority. I am a former employee of NEC Semi Conductors Ireland, having worked for the company for over 12 years and was also a shop steward.
Following my redundancy in 2006, I set up the employment lobby group Next Era Calling with former employees and some community members to fight for the rights of workers.
