Tuffy welcomes far left U-turn on Irish Water
Dublin Mid-West Labour Party TD Joanna Tuffy has said Paul Murphy, Richard Boyd Barrett and Joan Collins signing a SIPTU petition for the re-designation of Irish Water as a non-commercial state agency represents a massive U-turn on their position.
Deputy Tuffy commented: “For the last number of years we have heard the likes of Paul Murphy, Richard Boyd Barrett and Joan Collins persistently call for Irish Water to be abolished.
“However this week they signed a SIPTU petition, which says Irish Water should be re-designated as a non-commercial state agency.
“This must mean that these TDs have completely changed their position on Irish Water because if they wanted Irish Water to be abolished why would they sign a petition saying it should be re-designated as a non-commercial state agency?
“This is totally at odds to what we have been hearing from Murphy, Boyd Barrett and Collins in the Dáil and at their protests where they have been calling for this vital public service to be abolished.
“You either have to stand for abolishing Irish Water or support re-designating it as a non-commercial state agency. You can’t be for both because those stances completely contradict each other.”
