POSITIVE EXCHEQUER RETURNS CONFIRM ENOUGH ROOM FOR FULL RESTORATION OF CHRISTMAS BONUS

Labour TD and Spokesperson for Finance, Joan Burton, has called on the Government to restore the Christmas Bonus following today’s healthy end of September Exchequer Returns.

Commenting on the figures, Deputy Burton said:

“Today’s very strong exchequer returns means that the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohue, as they face into next week’s Budget, have the capacity to produce a fair and growth positive budget- including the full restoration of the Christmas Bonus.

Clearly next week the issue of capital expenditure, particularly in relation to areas like housing, schools and transport, also need to be addressed.”
