Statement by Labour Party Leader and spokesperson for Justice, Brendan Howlin, T.D.
“Today we have seen that more than 14,500 traffic convictions are to be quashed, and almost a million breath tests were falsely logged by Gardaí.
“What has been revealed today raises fundamental concerns about the accuracy of Garda statistics and reporting, and strikes at the core of public confidence in an Garda Síochána, and especially road safety enforcement.
“The Tánaiste and Minister for Justice must immediately set out in clear terms the steps to be taken to address this, and in particular the time frame and costs envisaged to restore much needed public confidence.”
