Northern Cross relief road must be included in Government Capital Plan
Labour Dublin City Councillor, Alison Gilliland has said the Northern Cross relief road must be included in the National Capital Plan to be announced on Friday.
Cllr Gilliland said:
“It is essential that the relief-road detailed in the Belmayne/Clongriffin Local Area Plan be included in the government’s upcoming Capital Plan. This relief-road is a must to reduce immense traffic congestion experienced daily by local motorists at the Clarehall Ave/R139/Malahide Rd Junction.
“The relief road underpins the vision of the Belmayne/Clongriffin Local Area Plan originally agreed by Dublin City Council in 2012 and extended for a further 5 years last. If this road is not built much needed housing and a new town centre in Belmayne is seriously compromised.
“This area has huge potential to become a key residential, retail and enterprise district however local residents are at breaking point with the extent of traffic gridlock at the moment. Approval of 150 new social housing units in the area was severely criticised given the poor local traffic infrastructure.
“At a recent stakeholders’ consultation organised by Dublin City Council on the future of the area the relief road was viewed as a top priority. If it is not included in the government’s upcoming Capital Plan it will show a distinct lack of attention to local needs and no comprehension of progressive land management
