Statement by Joe Costello on death of Jimmy Kelly
“It is with sadness we hear of the death of Jimmy Kelly. Jimmy was a lifelong member of the Trade Union movement and the Labour Party. He was born and raised in Sheriff Street and lived in Dublin Central all his life. He worked as a Trade Union official in Liberty Hall.
“He was a wonderful singer. His strong melodic voice, well suited to traditional and working-class ballads, was the same quality as that of his brother Luke. He was known locally as the “Troubadour” of the Labour movement.
“On behalf of the Labour Party in Dublin Central, where he was a lifelong member, I want to express our sincere condolonces to his wife, Máirín, his son, Ronán and daughter, Niamh, his brothers and sisters and extended family.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anam.”
