Ryan calls for fair shake for Fingal in Port Tunnel pricing
Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, Brendan Ryan TD, has today called on the Minister for Transport, Shane Ross, to reassess the pricing for commuters using the Port Tunnel as the current peak time pricing unfairly impacts people from North County Dublin.
Deputy Ryan said:
“Living in the here and now, commuters from North County Dublin are using the Port Tunnel as a means to get into the city centre or down the eastern boundary of the city through the East Link Bridge. They are being unfairly hit, in my view, by the charging structure which is currently in place.
“The charging structure hits €10 for southbound commuters in the morning between 6 and 10am Monday to Friday and Northbound in the evenings between 4pm and 7pm.
“If you live on the city side of the tunnel and work on the county side, you would pay €6 a day in tolls if you were to use the tunnel both to and from work. This compares to €20 per day for a commuter who comes from the North County or beyond and works in the city. That is a difference of €70 per week. This is a completely unfair charge on those living in North County Dublin and beyond.”
