Ivana Bacik to take part in Parnell Summer School on Monday 13 August 2018
As part of the Parnell Summer School which will take place from 12-16 August at Avondale House, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, Senator Ivana Bacik will take part in a timely discussion on the centenary of women’s suffrage.
Speaking about the event, Bacik stated,
‘As we celebrate 100 years of women’s suffrage in 2018, we should reflect on how much more needs to be done to achieve true gender equality in Irish society; and in particular, we should reflect that our political system remains an “unfinished democracy” while women remain seriously under-represented in our Oireachtas.’
On Monday 13 August at 2 pm, Olwen Dawe, Board member, Poetry Ireland & National Women’s Council of Ireland, will chair a discussion on ‘A Century of Women in Irish public life, 1918-2018’. Senator Ivana Bacik, Chair of Oireachtas Vótáil 100 Committee, Sinéad McCoole, Commemoration Unit, Department of Heritage, Culture and the Gaeltacht, and Orla O’Connor, Director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland will discuss the legacy of the suffrage movement and gender equality in Irish society today.
