Outrageous school shooting demands strong Government response
Labour TD for Dublin West, Joan Burton has called on the Fine Gael Government to respond urgently to the outrageous shooting incident that occurred outside the Riversdale Community College this afternoon by increasing the resources for community policing, and clamping down on the spate of recent incidents locally.
Deputy Burton said:
“The outrageous incident today, where a gunman fired shots at two men outside a school today is absolutely shocking and requires an urgent response from the Government.
“That someone could act with such impunity where children are being taught is deeply troubling.
“I have spoken to parents and staff recently in local schools who are concerned about recent episodes of lawlessness in the area.
“Unfortunately a small number of people are putting the good name of the whole community at risk but this escalation of feuding and violence must be tackled.
“We need more community policing urgently. I am calling on the Fine Gael Minister for Justice to respond to this latest incident, and I hope he will now act.
“This type of shooting cannot be allowed become the norm.”
