Smith stands with Swords SK Biotek workers

30 October 2019

Labour Party by-election candidate for Fingal, Councillor Duncan Smith, has called for meaningful engagement in the SK Biotek dispute.

Councillor Smith said:

“This morning I visited the SK Biotek picket line on Watery Lane in Swords to meet these Biotek workers who are currently engaging in industrial action. I listened to their concerns and reasons for this action and I must say their ask is very reasonable.

“I completely support the workers’ request that management at SK Biotek return to the Workplace Relations Commission and engage with workers representatives and SIPTU as per the existing Collective Agreement.

“Any matters of concern for all sides are better discussed and agreed upon through the industrial relations mechanisms of the State such as the WRC. Workers through their union, SIPTU are willing to engage and this morning I have contacted management directly to engage with official channels to resolve this dispute.

“The time for has come for some flexibility on the part of SK Biotek and they must bring real solutions to the table.”
