Labour Party General Election candidate for Dublin Bay North, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, has said the latest discovery of a body in Coolock is very distressing and has reiterated his call for a Northside crime task force.

Senator Ó Ríordáin said:

“The news of another violent fatality on the Northside is deeply concerning.

“Since the summer we have had five murders, a non-fatal shooting since the weekend and now this incident of a body being found. This is not normal.

“We need to see a real response to this in the form of a Northside crime task force, similar to the Mulvey Commission for the North Inner City.

“It is hard to believe that our constituency has two members sitting at Cabinet and a large scale project to tackle gang land crime occurring in Dublin Bay North has not been launched. Communities across our constituency are calling out for progress.

“What is happening is not normal, we need to see real action from Government immediately.”
