Minister must clarify when Leaving Cert results will be released
The Minister for Education must clarify how and when Leaving Cert results will be released according to Labour Education Spokesperson Aodhán O Riordáin.
O Riordáin was speaking after Education Minister Norma Foley declined to confirm that the results will be issued in August as originally intended.
Deputy O Riordáin said:
“It is my understanding that the Department are conceding that the Leaving Cert will not be released until September. I asked Minister Foley to clarify in the Dáil that the results will be issued as intended in August and she refused to commit to the August date.
“This is yet more uncertainty for this years Leaving Certificate students who have already suffered enough on account of the Governments decision to cancel the state examination at the last minute.
“I am calling on the Minister to show some leadership and to give Leaving Cert students the reassurance they need by telling them how and when they will get their results.
“We have already had schools express concern about following the traditional approach of giving the results directly to students with concerns about social distancing and the role of teachers within the school under the calculated grades process.
O Riordáin continued:
“The Minister and the Department constantly repeat the same mantra around ‘engaging with the stakeholders’ and this offers students and parents no reassurance. Minister Foley needs to take control of the situation and give them the clarity they need around issuing Leaving Cert results.
