Labour Leader announces key new staff appointments

24 July 2020

Labour Party leader Alan Kelly TD has announced the following new appointments to senior staff positions within the Labour Party, adding that the Party will be ready for an election whenever it comes.

Deputy Kelly said:

“I am delighted to announce today the appointment of a number of new senior staff positions within the Labour Party and I look forward to working with them in the years ahead as we develop and grow our team of representatives and members, and focus on providing principled opposition to this shambolic coalition government.

  • Cónán Ó Broin will take up the role of Political Director in August. He has previously worked in a communications role at the Central Bank, as a special adviser, and is a former President of Trinity College Student Union.

  • Billie Sparks will be the new General Secretary of the Labour Party, and her appointment to the position was approved by our Executive Board this week. She previously served as our National Organiser, and women’s officer, and is a qualified solicitor.

  • Kevin Humphreys will take up the role of National Organiser. He is a former Minister of State, TD and Senator with an intimate knowledge of our organisation and structures, and co-ran our successful Seanad election campaign.

“The last few weeks have shown the chaotic nature of this government, with a Ministerial sacking and mixed messages on a range of issues, and the first task of our new team will be to prepare the Labour Party organisation for any potential future election.”
