Wall welcomes opening of applications for €70 million Covid-19 Sport Ireland fund
Labour Spokesperson on Sport, Senator Mark Wall has welcomed the opening of the application process for €70 million funding by Sport Ireland for sporting organisations through four different targeted grant schemes in response to the Covid-19 crisis.
Senator Wall said:
“Sporting organisations are the backbone of our communities and they have come under severe financial pressure due to the impact of Covid-19. Many clubs have massive overheads because they had to cease revenue raising measures because of Covid restrictions and have received little or no funding over the last number of months.
“This funding is vital in protecting and safeguarding the viability of the national sports system post Covid and also in terms of the long-term public health response to Covid-19.
“Sport is also important for the mental and physical wellbeing of participants and spectators and I would again call on Minister’s Catherine Martin and Jack Chambers to announce another round of Sports Capital funding to add to the €70 million package of Sport Ireland funding.
