Full audit of IT networks across all Higher Education Institutions urgently required
Labour TD for Cork East, Sean Sherlock has today (Friday, 10th February) said an full audit of IT networks across all Higher Education Institutions (HEI) is urgently required.
Deputy Sherlock said:
“There must be a rapid response from Ireland Inc. to this global threat including a standardised fallback teaching protocol for all HEI’s when ‘outages’ or ‘attacks’ occur. Closing campuses should only be a very last resort. The Government has a duty to step in here and intervene at Board of Governors level to assess if there has been an historic under resourcing of IT Systems and address it as a matter of urgency. The cold reality is we need to develop modern policy that provides financial support to HEI’s and assist them to buttress their IT systems from cyber-attacks into the future.”
