Details of Government’s ‘grubby deal’ with so-called Independents must be published in full
Labour public spending spokesperson Ged Nash has demanded the release of all documents and full costings relating to the deal Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil made with so-called Independent TDs to lift the eviction ban.
Deputy Nash said:
“Aside from the enormous societal cost, it cost Irish taxpayers at least €12 million to lift the eviction ban.
“Reporting by the Irish Daily Mail this week has proven that there is just no depths that this Government will not plunge to keep themselves afloat and in office.
“Last March, the Labour Party put forward a no confidence motion in this Government for it’s failure to protect renters, it’s failure to grapple with the housing crisis, and it’s failure to give renters the security of a roof over their head.
“The public have a right to know and I am demanding that this Government own up to how it’s spending people’s hard earned money.
“The dubious deal this conservative coalition made with the government proxies in the Regional Group cost us at least €12 million. The Government must publish the full details of this plan, immediately.
“When will the Taoiseach and his colleagues learn that they can’t pull the wool over people’s eyes?
“It seems that there is no price that this Government will not pay to keep themselves in office.”
