Exorbitant UL overspend demands further scrutiny
- Board must reappear in front of PAC
Labour Cllr and Limerick city General Election candidate Conor Sheehan has described the finds of the Comptroller and Auditor General report into UL outrageous.
Calling on the board to attend the Public Accounts Committee, Cllr Sheehan said there has been an abject failure to carry out any level of due diligence.
Cllr Sheehan said:
“The C&AG report highlights the utter dearth of accountability and oversight at UL. This egregious overspend on both the Dunnes’ site and for houses in UL is absolutely shocking.
“There are serious questions as to what level of attention, if any, has been given by the University when it comes to spending enormous sums of money on accommodation.
“Following the publication of the report, it’s time for a root and branch investigation to be carried out into this exorbitant overspending.
“UL representatives must present themselves to PAC. The public has a right to understand just what when on here. There must be accountability to understand how good tax payers money could be wasted in such a way.”
