Why I got involved in politics

My involvement in the Labour Party and in politics started when I was 12 and I have been an active member in politics at both a local and national level for the past 16 years.

I'm a 5th generation member of the Labour Party and I followed into politics as I wanted to make a difference and see change.

The days of sitting back and hoping someone else will fix things are gone and I wanted to not just talk about fixing things I want to be the person who brings around these fixes and to bring around change.

My priorities

My priorities are as follows:

  • The provision of education to all.
  • Access to Physiological Assessments to identify Educational Support Needs.
  • Rural Development and Regeneration.
  • Protection and Development of Local Amenities.
  • Planning Applications and affordability of building your own home.
  • Building of new houses and the retrofitting of pre-existing dwellings.
  • Protection of Jobs within Westmeath.
  • Road development and maintenance.
  • Increasing the facilities for the Youth of our Communities.

My background

As a full time, teacher and someone who is not long out of full-time education I have an insight into the needs of students at both secondary and further education at all levels.

One of the many challenges I have advocated for is one of Physiological Assessments to identify Special Educational Needs and for students to gain access to different supports such as Educational Support Classes, Assistive Technology, Level 2 Learning Program etc.

Over the last 2 years I have been nurtured by Cllr Johnnie Penrose in the workings, administrations and policies within Westmeath County Council.

I have gained the experience and insights into assisting my constitutions in areas including but not limited to Social Housing, Planning, Road Maintenance, Community Projects including development and improvement of infrastructures and finally the overall development of our area.
