Why I got involved in politics
My passion is community! Community is about the people that live in it, the infrastructure, services and supports people need to live there best life! I went into politics to effect change and represent my community! To lobby , campaign and fight on the issues that effect our community! Community is Everything! I aim to bring the same positivity and commitment to public life as i do my work life!
My priorities
Housing – I will campaign for Social/Private/Affordable housing
Anti-Social Behaviour – I will lobby for a review of criminal law in an effort to combat anti-social behaviour. I will also continue my campaign for additional Garda resources for Dublin Mid-West especially investment in communities and Community Guards!
Mental Health – I will lobby for Youth Development programmes, positive mental health and increases to funding for Mental Health services!
Disability – I will continue to be a voice for people with a disability. I will lobby for quicker access to assessment and access to disability services
Community – I will continue to be involved in many local and national groups and promote and encourage an inclusive and vibrant community!
Climate Change – I will continue to work on positive national environmental issues!
Survivors – I will continue to lobby for redress and medical care for Survivors of Institutional Church and State Abuse!
Infrastructure – I will Lobby and fight for better and adequate infrastructure and amenities in all areas, especially for new developments such as the Clonburris SDZ. I will lobby for much needed schools in our communities like a secondary school in Newcastle and to secure long term funding for Scoil Mochua!
Plans – I will continue to work hard on the Clondalkin Local Area Plan, the delivery of the County Development Plan 2022-2028 and the Traffic Plan for Newcastle, Rathcoole and Saggart!
Equality, Social Justice and Human Rights – I will continue working to promote and encourage Equality, Social Justice and Human Rights issues that make our community and country a better, more inclusive place to live, workand visit!
Immigration – I will lobby for a fair and effective Immigration Policy
My background
Having worked within various settings in the Disabilities, Homeless and Probation services for much of my adult life I have 34 years’ experience in dealing with issues that affect families and our communities. As an adult education teacher, I give advice and knowledge to students looking after people. I have real experience in real situations.
I am committed to local issues. Previously I was a founder and committee member of Clonburris Youth Club for over 10 years, a committee member on Clondalkin Community Council. Public Relations Officer for Peamount Hospital Parents and Friends, and Clondalkin Drama Group.
I am a Peace Commissioner appointed by Minister for Justice Alan Shatter TD for the County of Dublin and the counties immediately adjoining that county.
As an Independent I am very proud to have been elected 3 times to represent the people of the Clondalkin Area on South Dublin County Council. I have an Honours degree in Social Care and I am passionate about social Justice Issues.
As an elected representative, I was am a member of the Environment SPC (previously I was on the Arts, Culture, Gaeilge, Heritage and Libraries SPC) and elected Clondalkin Area Chair for 2015-2016 , 2018-2019 , 2021-2022 and 2023-2024. I was also nominated twice for Mayor of South Dublin County Council.
I founded and am Chair of Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day Parade and the Clondalkin Helping Homeless and those in need. I am actively involved in the Clondalkin Fairtrade Town campaign and on the Board of the Global Garden Clondalkin.
I am also Chair of Creative Clondalkin, I am also on Rathcoole Brigid’s committee and La Fhéile Bríde / Brigids Day Festival Clondalkin committee. I am actively working with the Newcastle Community Secondary school committee.
I’m also an active member of Clondalkin Tidy Towns and attend the regular meetings of the ReNewcastle Group and Saggart Tidy Towns.
I have been Chair of the of the Bawnogue Community Centre, Knockmitten Community Centre and the Clondalkin Handcraft & Horticultural Show. I was also on the Boards of Neilstown Community Centre, Quarryvale Family Resource Centre, the Christine Buckley Centre and Clondalkin Buddy Bench.
I called for the establishment of and sat on the Dublin Region Horse Welfare Working Group and also on the Review of Legislation/Bye Laws sub-group and also the Scrambler and Quad Regional Forum and working group.
