Labour Party completes recruitment of support team to work with Parliamentary Labour Party

Neil Ward has been appointed Chief of Staff in the office of the leader of the Labour Party, and will oversee operations in Leinster House. Neil served as special advisor to both Jan O’Sullivan and Ruairí Quinn over recent years, having previously worked in Labour Head Office and in the financial services sector. He holds an MA in Political and Public Communications from DCU. Neil can be contacted at [email protected] or on 085 713 4159.

Cathal McCann has been appointed Head of Communications and Research. Cathal has been working in public affairs over recent months, having served as an advisor to Kevin Humphreys during his time as a Minister in the Department of Social Protection, and has a background in neurogenetic research. Cathal will take up his duties on a full-time basis on 3rd October following paternity leave and his contact details are [email protected] and 0874157832.

Claire McGreal has been appointed Press and Research Officer. Claire most recently worked at RTÉ radio as a freelance journalist on the newsdesk and with Morning Ireland. She previously worked in Australian media and with Q102 news in Dublin. Claire can be reached at [email protected] or 083 169 8517.

Siobhán de Paor has been appointed Press and Social Media Officer. Siobhán served as Social Media Officer for the Labour Party in advance of the last general election, and previously worked as a Parliamentary Assistant in Dáil Éireann. Finbarr O’Malley has been reappointed as Legal and Policy Advisor. Finbarr served in the same role prior to 2011, and went on to work with Pat Rabbitte and Ged Nash during their respective tenures as Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, and Minister for Labour Affairs. He is a qualified barrister.

Betty Desmond, who has many years experience working with the Labour Party, has been appointed Party Administrator.
