Labour Trade Unionists
28 February 2017

Labour Transport spokesperson Brendan Ryan TD along with Party Leader Brendan Howlin, and spokesperson on Workers rights Senator Ged Nash will today at 2.30pm launch a new bill to stop a race to the bottom on terms and conditions in the bus transport sector.

They will be available to speak to reporters at 2.30pm at the Leinster House plinth on this bill, and the crisis in Bus Éireann.

Date: Wednesday 1st March 2017
Time: 2.30pm
Location: Leinster House plinth

Notes:
The proposed Public Transport Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2017 seeks to amend the regulations for the awarding of licenses by the NTA to private operators to ensure that they either (a) engage in collective bargaining with their own workforce, or else, (b) become a member of an association representing the industry as a whole. Provision (b) would ensure a Sectoral Employment Order (SEO) covering the private bus industry could be introduced, hence preventing a race to the bottom on the terms and conditions of bus drivers.
