BURTON TO CALL FOR HEARINGS INTO REDRESS AGREEMENT – 11AM PLINTH
Labour Education spokesperson, Joan Burton TD, will be available to speak to journalists this morning at 11am on her call for hearings to be held into the Redress Scheme.
Specifically, Deputy Burton has written to the Chair of the Joint Committee on Education and Skills, proposing that hearings are held into the circumstances, considerations and motives surrounding the agreement between the State and certain religious congregations of June 2002.
A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General last month revealed that only 13 per cent of the costs had been paid by religious institutions at the end of 2015.
Deputy Burton will also be available to take questions on the issues of the day.
