Senator Ivana Bacik has invited other Oireachtas members from all parties and none to participate in a photo call to launch an All-Party Oireachtas Cyclists Group. Members of Dublin Cycling Campaign will also be present at the event.

Time : Wednesday, 12th April, 11am

Place : Kildare Street, Dublin 2

Speaking about the photo call and event, Senator Bacik said:

“I have convened an All-Party Oireachtas Cyclists Group, for all Senators and TDs who wish to take up cycling, or are already regular cyclists. The purpose of the Group is to work on an all-party basis on a number of issues. We will be seeking political support for the Road Traffic (Minimum Passing Distance of Cyclists) Bill 2017 proposed by Ciaran Cannon and Regina Doherty; we will also be highlighting the need to take measures to address road safety for cyclists, especially given the high number of cyclists recently killed and injured in collisions on the roads. Finally, we will also be calling for an increase in budget resources for cycling infrastructure.”

“More generally, I hope that an Oireachtas Cyclists Group can encourage and promote the use of cycling more widely.”
