Varadkar must abide by Dáil Vote on SCU
Labour Party TD and Dáil spokesperson on Communications, Seán Sherlock TD, has called on the Taoiseach to abide by the vote taken in Dáil Éireann today to abolish the Strategic Communications Unit.
Deputy Sherlock said:
“Labour supported the motion to disband the Strategic Communications Unit because people are losing confidence day by day in a Government that prioritises spin over substance.
“For the Taoiseach to yet again ignore the democratically determined view of the Dáil is simply not acceptable.
“The frustration of the Taoiseach that his flagship initiative has hit the rocks is obvious, but the painful truth is that criticism of spin and style over substance continues to be substantiated.
“The peoples’ representatives have made their decision and views known, but the Taoiseach appears prepared to ride roughshod over it. No wonder he is annoyed that the opposition, rightly, is examining the net effect of so much investment in adverts and PR opportunities.
“The Taoiseach should abide by the wishes of the House if he has any respect for parliamentary representatives in Ireland.”
