Howlin congratulates Cahill on co-option as Councillor
Labour Party Leader Brendan Howlin has congratulated former Senator Máiría Cahill on her co-option by the SDLP to a Council seat in Lisburn and Castlereagh, and wished her success in her future position.
Deputy Howlin said:
“ I would like to wish Máiría Cahill the very best in her new role as an SDLP Councillor for Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council following her co-option.
“I have no doubt that she will be an invaluable representative to the people of Lisburn and Castlereagh in the Killultagh ward.
“Máiría has shown incredible bravery and courage in publicly calling out the republican movement for the abuses she suffered at their hands, and has continued to campaign for justice for other victims of abuse.
“As a Labour Party Senator, she was a strong advocate for those who have never been given a platform to raise and discuss their experiences.
“I am proud that she has retained her membership of the Labour party and now goes on to represent our sister party in Northern Ireland, the SDLP.”
