Labour’s Alternative Budget 2027 - The Labour Party
Labour’s Budget is different.
Our approach would provide immediate support to address the cost of living crisis as well as laying the foundations for long-term investment in Ireland’s public infrastructure, using a thriving economy to create a fairer society.
Our fully costed plan shows how by taxing wealth, and putting windfall taxes on soaring energy and bank profits we can widen the tax base – so that we can build better public services, and support workers and families that were left behind by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael last year.
- When half a million households are in energy arrears, that Ireland can afford to provide targeted energy credits worth €400 to over 1.2 million homes that need them.
- That as a wealthy and highly unequal economy that we can afford to increase social welfare payments by €15 a week, and increase public sector pay and index income tax rates and bands in line with projected wage growth of 4%.
- That as a country that remembers what it was to be poor, that we can afford a second targeted rate of child benefit to lift tens of thousands of children out of poverty.
Our Alternative Budget provides a different vision for Ireland by putting in place the investment needs to expand public services, build more homes and address the climate crisis. Each chapter outlines detailed policies across every area of government. This is our plan to ensure we have a future that we can all afford.
