This year is particularly poignant as it will mark the first May Day rally since the passing of long standing Secretary of the DCTU, Sam Nolan.
Here are the details:
- Date: Wednesday, 1st May 2024
- Time: Assemble at 6:30pm
- Location: Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin
We’ll kick off the rally following the launch of the Labour Trade Unionists Workers Manifesto with local election candidates by marching from the Garden of Remembrance to Liberty Hall where there will be speeches and a chance for members and comrades to share stories and do some socialising.
Remember, it was 30 years ago this year that the Labour Party in Government supported by the Dublin Council of Trade Unions and the ICTU that finally made May Day a Bank Holiday for all but the roots run much deeper.
The 1904 Conference of the Second International called on “all Social Democratic Party organisations and trade unions of all countries to demonstrate energetically on the First of May for the legal establishment of the eight hour day, for the class demands of the proletariat, and for universal peace.” La Lucha Continua.
Hope to see you there and Happy May Day!
