Labour Women launch Niamh Bhreathnach Mentoring Programme

As the 2024 local and European elections approach Labour Women will be supporting our candidates in whatever way we can. This will include organising training and supporting fundraising, however we also want to harness the wealth of experience and talent across our membership. We know that support from women within our own party can make a significant difference for candidates. That’s why we have created the Niamh Bhreathnach Mentoring Programme.

We were all deeply saddened when Niamh Bhreathnach passed away suddenly earlier this year. While Niamh’s legacy includes the abolition of third-level undergraduate tuition fees and far reaching reforms in education, it also includes mentoring and encouraging women in our Party. In the years after her electoral career Niamh always took the time to advise new candidates and support them however she could.

It is this support that has inspired this new mentor programme which will match former Labour Councillors, T.D.s and Senators, with current candidates, with the aim of providing candidates with a trusted confidante and advisor, who has been there themselves, knows what it’s like to be a woman running for election, and can provide counsel and encouragement. Labour Women will match former public representatives and candidates running next year. If you are interested in taking part please email [email protected]
