Selection convention updates - Aideen Blackwood

As we approach the end of 2023, we have been very busy preparing for next year’s Local Elections over the past few months. We now have 54 Labour candidates selected to run next June, with one more due to be selected this evening at our final convention of the year in Ratoath, Co. Meath.

Since our last update in Leftfield at the end of September, we have selected candidates from Sligo to Dingle, from Mullingar to Waterford and from Dun Laoghaire to Clonakilty.

We have selected long-standing councillors like Cllr. Joe Leddin in Limerick City West, Cllr. Mary McCamley in Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart and Cllr. Cathal Rasmussen in Cobh.

We also selected brand-new first-time candidates such as Patrick Dempsey in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh, Lorna Fitzpatrick in Gorey and Helen Ogbu in Galway City East, among many more.

Our candidates across the country will be out campaigning for our Labour Party values of fairness, equality and solidarity, knocking on doors and speaking to as many people in their communities as they can over the next six months. To do this, they will need the support of every member of the party, and it will be that support that will ensure as many of our candidates are elected as possible.

Please get in touch with your local candidates and constituencies to see how you can help with their campaigns, which will be kicking into a new gear from January. Your support for them will help to return Labour Party councillors across the country next June, so they can work with their communities to build an Ireland that works for all.

If you would like to organise a selection convention for your area, please get in touch by email at [email protected].
