Lynch highlights ‘roaring’ retail sales figures

06 January 2016

Labour TD Ciaran Lynch has welcomed news that retail sales have increased 9.3% in the last 12 months, according to fresh CSO figures released this afternoon.

Deputy Lynch said: “From October to November this year, the volume of retail sales rose by 2.2.%, with electrical goods and department store sales showing the strongest growth.

“Overall, retail sales have jumped by 9.3% over the 12 months to November 2015. It’s an excellent sign that consumer confidence and spending is lifting, and complements buoyant activity elsewhere in the economy.

“Good retail figures like those issued by CSO today reaffirm for us that the economy is in an increasingly strong position and I expect this growth to continue apace as things on the domestic front improve even further.

“A few short years ago the economy was on a runaway train with 300,000 jobs lost and emigration soaring under Fianna Fail’s watch. The fact that this Government now oversees an economy that is creating 1,000 jobs a week and boasts roaring retail sales figures is nothing short of remarkable.”
