Funding of €50,000 for Cork International Choral Festival

08 January 2016

Cork South Central Labour TD Ciarán Lynch, welcomed the news that funding of €50,000 has been confirmed for Cork International Choral Festival this week, saying that it would help the event to expand and grow into the future.

Deputy Lynch added: “This vital funding, approved by Fáilte Ireland under its 2016 National Festivals and Events Programme, is very welcome news for the local tourism sector.

“It will ensure that Cork’s Choral Festival, one of the oldest festivals in the country, is supported right through 2016 and will enhance its international appeal even further.

“Tourism is a lifeline for many businesses in Cork because it creates and sustains local jobs.

“Since entering Government, we have been unwavering in our support for promoting the industry and it shows. Initiatives like the reduction in VAT, The Gathering, The Wild Atlantic Way, and the most recent, lreland’s Ancient East, are revitalising the sector. We have just experienced another bumper year for tourism numbers, which proves these initiatives are working.

“The continued support for schemes like the National Festivals and Events Programme is another example of this government’s commitment to the tourism industry.”
