Voters in Laois have a clear choice to make

14 January 2016

Speaking ahead of the launch of Senator John Whelan’s election campaign in Portlaoise this evening, Labour TD and former Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn outlined his views on the choice facing voters in the next election.

“The people of the new, three seat constituency of Laois will have a clear political choice in the General Election. They can re-elect the outgoing government of Labour and Fine Gael in order to continue the economic and social recovery of our battered and bruised country.

“Or, they can vote for any combination of political parties which have one thing in common, they will not go into Government with each other.

“Labour in Government has ensured justice and equality along with sound economic management as the country continues to recover.

“The job is not complete. We need to maintain the current economic growth so as to ensure more jobs and better social services in education, health and care for the elderly. Labour is a social democratic party that knows what needs to be done and has the skills and the experience to do it.

“At present, if you want to re-elect the present Labour/ Fine Gael government then Labour’s Senator John Whelan must get your number 1 vote on polling day.

“John has been a fantastic local activist on behalf of the people of Laois. His experience as a journalist and his political skills as a Senator will ensure that the people of Laois have an influential voice on their behalf in Dáil Éireann after the General Election.”
