Minister Humphreys has welcomed the publication of Labour’s plan for Dublin.

23 February 2016

“Dublin is a crucial part of the country – economically, socially and culturally. I am proud that the Labour Party has set out clear objectives for the future of our capital. We can and will deliver a safer Dublin through more Garda recruitment and a new focus on community policing projects. Labour will also continue delivering the transport services a modern capital city needs through the Metro North project, new green funding for Dublin Buses, and investment in a city cycle-way system. We also plan to pedestrianise more of the city centre and set an ambitious target of making Dublin one of the world’s few carbon-neutral cities.

“Labour wants to see the recovery deliver for every Dubliner. In addition to our national housing plan, we will extend the ‘Empty Nester’ scheme throughout the city. This will facilitate older people who wish to downsize to sell their old house to the council and be re-housed in more suitable accommodation. Labour is also keen to implement more Local Employment Charters, ensuring at least 20% of the workforce for public construction projects is drawn from the local area. And we will give Dubliners a choice on whether they want a directly-elected Mayor with real powers to lead a modern, dynamic capital city.”

“I welcome all of these plans and would encourage every Dubliner with an interest in the future of their city and county to vote Labour number one to see these measured delivered.”
