LABOUR YOUTH WELCOME THE ABSTENTION OF LABOUR PARTY TDS TODAY

Following today’s vote in the Dáil for the next Taoiseach, Labour Youth welcomes the decision taken by Labour TDs to abstain from voting for Fine Gael leader, Enda Kenny.

National Chairperson, Grace Williams commented, “Labour’s decision to abstain today is a positive step for our party. It is important that Labour continues to highlight the issues which must be addressed by the next government instead of allowing them to be forgotten while government negotiations take place.

“Today our party leader, Joan Burton, quite rightly pointed out that discussion of the living wage, repealing the 8th, and strong public investment have been somewhat lacking in conversations between potential future coalition partners.

“Labour Youth and the Labour Party must and will continue to be the voice which highlights these issues when others do not.”
