Howlin welcomes publication of Benefacts website

18 May 2016

Labour TD for Wexford and former Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin, has welcomed the official publication of the Benefacts website which brings information about Ireland’s not for profit sector into a single online database.

Deputy Howlin commented: “This is a project I was particularly pleased to advance as Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform and I would like to congratulate Patricia Quinn and her team in getting the project to this point.

“Better data is central to both better public debate and public service reform.  In this instance we have brought together data on over 18,500 not for profits in what amounts to the first forensic look at a sector that benefits from over €4bn worth of public funding for service delivery.

“Today’s publication will allow for a much greater interrogation of this important policy area and is consistent with the move towards the proactive publication of state data I was pleased to promote in my time as Minister.”
