With the question over Labour leadership answered today following the election of Brendan Howlin as the new leader, Labour Youth is looking forward to beginning the party’s rebuild.

Labour Youth National Chairperson Grace Williams said, “I’d like to congratulate Brendan Howlin on his election as Labour Party leader and look forward to meeting with him to discuss our plans for Labour’s future.

“I’d also like to thank Joan Burton for her time as Labour leader. Joan was always willing to engage with our organisation, something which was greatly appreciated.

“I am very excited to see a progressive agenda continue to be put forward by our party. We must be a campaigning party that champions the issues of equality for all, improving workers’ rights, and delivering a better society.

“Internally, I strongly believe that we must review our constitution in a way that allows for more meaningful engagement from the party’s members.

“Our campaign to end pay discrimination is something we believe is crucial in ensuring equality for all. We look forward to discussing furthering this campaign with the new leader.”
