Labour Youth is sending messages of solidarity to the people of Orlando, after the shocking news yesterday that 50 people were murdered in a gay nightclub. Declan Meenagh, Labour Youth International Officer said: “We are devastated at the news of the attack on the LGBTQ+ community in Orlando. On behalf of Labour Youth, we send our most sincere messages of solidarity to the families of the victims and the rest of the LGBTQ+ community during this terrible time.”Also commenting on the news, Labour Youth National Chairperson, Grace Williams said: “I am adamant that this demonstrates the immediate need for progression of LGBTQ+ rights. Marriage equality was a great first step in progressing to full equality for all LGBTQ+ people. However, attacks like this show us the prejudice and hate that the LGBTQ+ community can still face.”We urge anyone who is affected by the news from Orlando to contact the following helplines:National LGBT Helpline-1890929 539 Gay Switchboard-018721055 Samaritans-116123
