Tuffy welcomes support for part time learners proposed in Cassells Report

12 July 2016

It is welcome that the Cassells report is proposing that whatever funding model is chosen for third level education, that part time students would be funded in the same manner as full time students. The report also proposes an extension of student supports to part time students.

Part time third level students, many of whom did not get a chance to go to college from school because of financial and other barriers are discriminated against a second time around by having to pay the full tuition fee and the grants scheme not being open to applications from part time undergraduate students.

The report very clearly proposes to address discrimination against part time third level students and that will be a very radical step.
