Finbarr Flood will be remembered for his service to people

25 July 2016

It is with great sadness I learnt earlier today of the death of Finbarr Flood.

Finbarr had a distinguished career in sport, business and in the service of the public.

He excelled at everything he did but he wore his success with the humility and modesty that were to be his trademarks.

Among a host of notable roles Finbarr was the Chairperson of the Labour Court and performed with distinction in this position.

He also played a significant role in devising the regeneration programmes for Fatima Mansions and St. Michael’s Estate.

It was fitting that in 2012 Dublin Institute of Technology awarded Finbarr with an honorary doctorate in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the worlds of business, sport, public service and community engagement.

Finbarr will be widely missed. I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to his family and friends and this difficult time.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
