PENROSE QUIZZES ROSS ON KILLUCAN STATION

17 November 2016

Labour TD for Longford-Westmeath, Willie Penrose, has urged the Minister for Transport, Shane Ross, to move to reopen the Killucan Railway Station in Westmeath.

Deputy Penrose, who raised the issue with the Minister in the Dáil this evening, commented:

“This station is the only stop in the 22 mile stretch from Dublin to Sligo and could provide a huge potential customer base if it were to be reopened.

“The population has effectively quadrupled in the area and a park and ride facility could be achieved without procurement, because Iarnród Éireann already owns a lot of the land around the station.

“I welcome that Minister Ross has accepted my invitation to visit Killucan station, and I look forward to showing him in person, how this station, through which trains already pass, could be reopened with relative ease but of huge benefit to the community.”
