PENROSE WELCOMES MINOR WORKS GRANT TO LONGFORD-WESTMEATH SCHOOLS

17 November 2016

Labour TD for Longford-Westmeath, Willie Penrose, has welcomed today’s announcement from the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, that 111 primary and special schools in his constituency are to benefit to the tune of around €950,000 under the minor works grant scheme.

Commenting on the figures, Deputy Penrose said:

“I welcome that €641,520 has been allocated to all 73 primary and special schools in County Westmeath, along with another €306,976 to the 38 primary and special schools in County Longford.

“Each school will get a fixed sum of €5,500 and then they’re allocated €18.5 per pupil on the basis of their 2015/16 figures.

“This is extremely valuable money for the school as it allows them to carry out vital minor works such as the replacement of doors or painting works for example, which need to be attended to urgently and on a frequent basis. This will also be of benefit to the students who will learn in an improved environment.”
