O’SULLIVAN CALLS FOR SUPPORT ON RENT CERTAINTY IN HOUSING BILL

08 December 2016

Labour Party spokesperson on Housing Jan O’Sullivan TD is calling for the support of TDs to help secure rent certainty as outlined in her Social and Affordable Housing bill.

“This evening I will be moving the second stage of Labour’s Social and Affordable Housing Bill in the Dáil.”

“Unfortunately the Government and Fianna Fáil have both tabled amendments declining to give it a reading at second stage.

“The Bill contains measures to control rents and rent increases and to give more security to tenants as well.

“It would also implement the recommendations of the Kenny Report limiting compensation for compulsory purchase of building land, controlling profits of vulture funds and bringing forward the Vacant Sites levy by 1 year, both measures designed to stop land being hoarded to make greater profits, as well as other related measures

“Opposition Bills on these most urgent of issues, as well as campaigns from outside the Oireachtas, are keeping them high on the political agenda and I am calling for all Party support for our Bill tonight.
