FURTHER INVESTMENT NEEDED IN CYCLING

24 March 2017

Labour spokesperson on Dublin, Senator Kevin Humphreys has called on the Government to invest in cycling infrastructure following the tragic death of a cyclist on Dublin’s roads this morning.

“My thoughts today are with the family of the cyclist who died following being knocked off his bike in Dublin City Centre this morning.

“In order to enhance the safety of cyclists, it is imperative that further investment is made in our cycling infrastructure. Currently, we are spending less than 1% of our transport budget on cycling.

“Cycling plays a key role in transport in our city and tragic events like today may make people think twice about cycling in Dublin.

“At this stage we should be investing in this clean green transport for our city not putting road blocks and further delays to developing this key infrastructure.”
