Statement from Labour Party Leader on London Attack

04 June 2017

Statement from Brendan Howlin TD, Leader of the Labour Party, on London attack.

“My thoughts, and those of the Labour Party, are with the women and men impacted by the horrific terrorist attack in London last night.

“The attack on people enjoying a Saturday night out was mindlessly cruel. But the response it triggered from emergency services and the people of London showed the futility of this action.

“As members of the emergency services ran towards danger, and the people of London opened their homes, cars and businesses to provide support to those affected, the strength and resilience of the city of London was shown to all.

“On behalf of the Labour Party, I have conveyed my sympathies and solidarity to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

“I spent last Thursday and Friday campaigning in London, meeting with people from all walks of life. The London that we walked the streets of has long stood as a beacon of inclusion and possibility – it will continue to be that long after this cowardly attack is forgotten.”
