Government must set out clear timeline for cardiac care in the South East
Labour Party Leader and TD for Wexford, Brendan Howlin, has called on the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar and Minister for Health, Simon Harris to ensure a mobile cath lab is in place for University Hospital Waterford.
“Firstly, my thoughts are with the family of Thomas Power who died en route from University Hospital Waterford to Cork University Hospital at the weekend.
“There is enormous concern in the South East about the issue of cardiac care in University Hospital Waterford. An interim solution was announced by the former Taoiseach, Enda Kenny and the Minister for Health in January, namely that a second mobile catheterisation laboratory would be provided.
“A solemn commitment was made by the Government to provide an interim solution by way of a mobile unit in the first quarter of this year; pending a further review.
“This commitment has been renaged upon by Government to the anger and dismay of the people of the South East.
“The Government must now now set out clear time lines for the provision of this urgently needed facility.”
