Moves must be made to reinstate funding to OCI – Wall

Senator Mark Wall
18 October 2017

Labour Party spokesperson on Sport, Councillor Mark Wall has said the decision of the Olympic Council of Ireland to terminate their contract with THG is welcome.

Councillor Wall said:

“It is good news for Irish sport that following mediation the OCI has terminated their contract with THG. This will now hopefully close the chapter on the Rio 2016 ticketing scandal.

“The termination of this contract signals that positive change is underway at OCI under the stewardship of Sarah Keane and new officials.

“Previously Minister Shane Ross said that funding would not be reinstated to the OCI until reforms were made at the organisation, now that we are starting to see positive change at the organisation, Minister Ross should now consider restoring their funding.

“Ultimately the people who have suffered through out this scandal are the hard-working athletes. Hopefully now these athletes will be able to move forward with the goal of Tokyo 2020 in sight.”
