Commitment needed on €45 million for Beaumont building work

19 October 2017

Beaumont A&E gets funding for design work in 2018 but NOT for building.

Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has cautiously welcomed the announcement that the design stage for a new Emergency Department in Beaumont Hospital is finally getting the go-ahead. However he said that a commitment is now needed that the money will be available to start building work in 2019. This follows a two year campaign from the local Labour Party.

Senator Ó Ríordáin said:

“The announcement of funding for the design stage of a new Emergency Department in Beaumont Hospital is welcome.

“However the actual €45 million needed to deliver the new building has not been budgeted for.

“It’s not good enough to say that the project ‘should’ go ahead in 2019.

“We need to know if building work will start in 2019 or if this is just a publicity stunt.

“We will continue this campaign relentlessly until the government deliver the investment needed for the community of Northside Dublin and beyond.

“We need a commitment from the Government that the funding to build the A&E will be in place in 2019, and not just publicity stunts about €100,000 of funding for design works.”
