Howlin welcomes Halawa return

24 October 2017

Labour Party Leader and spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Brendan Howlin TD, has welcomed news that Ibrahim Halawa has finally returned home to Ireland.

Deputy Howlin said:

“I am delighted to hear that Ibrahim Halawa has returned home safely to Ireland after spending four years in an Egyptian prison.

“I am sure today will be an extremely happy day for Ibrahim, his entire family and for all who supported him throughout this entire process.

“Having travelled with an Oireachtas delegation as part of Irish efforts to secure his release at the start of this year, I can only imagine the relief and joy Ibrahim’s family must be feeling now that he is back on Irish soil.

“I hope that Ibrahim and his family are given the space and privacy they  need over the coming days to celebrate the fact that Ibrahim is finally home.”
